New night, new recipe, first major setback
Yep finally got around to brewing my Stout. Everything was looking great until Sparge time. The grains created what could only be described as a "clot" about 4" thick on top of the false bottom. So you guessed it, stuck sparge! After messing around for about 45 minutes which included dumping the mash, breaking up the "clot" and resettling the grains, I finally got a small trickle. In the end it took a small amount of stirring of the grains to get a flow going. Needless to say 3 hours later, its in the fermenter and hopfully will be kicking off soon.
OG 1.44
More to follow.
Yep, thats what we thought as well. I just checked it and its very happily fermenting. Major activity in the Airlock.

I have felt your pain my brother! I have only had a stuck sparge twice, both time at Jim's Place. But I have had to do the same thing with the dumping of the mash tun. My guess is that the crush may be too fine and shredding the hulls and creating flour. These can lead to what you are seeing.
